I spent over five years training as a psychotherapist and counsellor at Birkbeck and Regents Universities, London. My training was rigorous and governed by BACP (Birkbeck) and UKCP (Regents). My coaching training was at the Academy of Executive Coaching.
I had a first career as a City solicitor, and the combination of this professional experience and a therapy training has given me a unique insight into the challenges faced by business professionals and, in particular, working executive mothers. Status anxiety, performance anxiety, stress and burnout are just some of the difficulties that come with working in such a demanding, output driven environment, particularly where this clashes with personal needs and commitments.
These are some of the particular areas where I have experience and have developed expertise:
-
Anxiety, depression, loss, bereavement
-
Workplace stress, work addiction, workplace bullying, work-life balance, performance anxiety
-
Existential crisis, feelings of alienation
-
Trauma and PTSD, impact of childhood abuse in adult life
-
Relationship issues, separation, divorce
-
Eating issues, substance abuse
-
Sexuality - including sex addiction
-
Childhood issues, adoption
-
Post-natal concerns, including depression
-
Life transitions - leaving home, redundancy, retirement, childbirth, parental death
I am governed by the UKCP code of ethics - a copy of which can be accessed here.
In addition to ongoing private client work, I work in a young persons' charity. I have seen clients in many different therapeutic settings as part of my training and post qualification including in a London Women's Centre, in schools and in a university setting. I also had the privilege of spending a clinical placement in a mother and baby NHS unit working with art therapy for women suffering postpartum mental health issues.
